What is AFIS?
AFIS – Agribusiness & Farm Insurance Specialist
Do I have
to attend each part of the program in order?
No. You may take Part 1, 2 or 3 in any order.
Do I need to decide
what classes I wish to take before attending the conference?
Yes. You must let us know when you send in your registration form. If you are
taking part in the designation program, you must mark which part on the registration
form. If you are taking the breakout classes, you must select ONE CLASS PER
TIME FRAME and send that form in with your registration form. All must me completed
to register you for the conference. If you have any questions about filling
out the registration form, please contact our main office at 800-375-8704.
What is a
breakout class?
A breakout class is a class that is designed to offer advanced and specific
information on specialized risk. These classes are offered for those who have
completed the designation program and those who would like to attend the conference
and not obtain the designation.
I’m taking
part in the designation program. Can I substitute one of those classes with
a breakout class.
No. When registering for either Part 1, 2 or 3 we are placing you in the classes
that go along with that part of the designation.
How do I complete
the designation program?
You must attend 3 separate conferences. Each “part” of the designation
takes 2 days and then you must pass the exam given at the end of the second
day.
Do I have to attend
both days?
Yes. You will not be able to receive CE or take the exam unless you have completed
the conference.
Do I have to take
the exam to receive my Continuing Education credits?
No. You may go to the conference and as long as you sign in and out, you will
receive CE. The exam is only for the AFIS designation.
How many questions
are on the exam?
50-60 multiple choice questions.
How will I know
if I passed or failed the exam?
You will receive a formal letter in the US Mail within 2 weeks of the conference.
Will I know which
questions I missed?
No. We will only be mailing a pass or fail letter.
Who can I call if
I have not received my pass or fail letter after 2 weeks?
You may call our San Francisco office at 415-874-3396 or 415-874-3371.
How do I maintain the AFIS designation?
Once the AFIS designation is earned, participants have two requirements to meet:
1. Annually, AFIS Designees should complete any CE seminar or farm/ag/rural
agents conference offered by their Big I state association, their Farm Bureau,
or the RMA/USDA.
2. Every three years, AFIS Designees must also attend any Agribusiness Conference
offered by Insurance Skills Center.
